Hawaiian Electric (HECO) performs PSPS

Sunday, July 7th, HECO proactively turned off power to 330 customers on Maui. https://www.hawaiianelectric.com/1230-pm-update-hawaiian-electric-shuts-off-power-in-upcountry-maui-due-to-wildfire-risk

This action was taken due to strong winds and dry conditions. Forecast data was collected from the NWS and other sources. In real-time, weather stations measured local wind speeds that met the criteria of the company.

The fact that so few customers were shutoff is a testament to how precise HECO has become with their weather station placement, as well as their ability to operate breakers on their distribution system.

Each black dot is a utility-owned weather station that HECO has put up since April 2024.
